Lumin Doves
When a Lumin Dove flies near it means that your soulmate is here…
Long ago, in a gentle valley hemmed by silver fields, lived a young farmer named Isla, whose heart quietly beat for another—a kind and beautiful sorceress, Miren, who would visit each spring to help coax new life from the earth. Though Isla longed to speak her love, she feared rejection, and so she hid her feelings behind shy glances and simple gifts—a braid of wildflowers at the gate, a basket of sun-warmed peaches.
Years passed, and Isla’s family, hoping for her happiness, arranged a match with another. Dutiful but heartsick, Isla agreed. The marriage, however, brought her little joy, and as her health waned with each lonely season, her loved ones grew worried. At last, on a day when the first green shoots pierced the winter frost, Miren arrived at Isla’s bedside, her eyes bright with tears and old, unspoken hope.
“I have always loved you,” Isla whispered, her voice frail as a dove’s feather.
Miren took her hand. “And I you, Isla. I thought you’d never want the likes of me, once you wed.”
“I was only ever waiting for a word.”
Moved by their shared regret, Miren—whose magic often called doves to nest in her gardens—cast a gentle enchantment on her flock. As Isla’s soul slipped from the world, Miren sent the doves skyward, whispering a wish that no unspoken love would ever linger so painfully again.
Since then, on Gondoday in the cycle of Brea in the season of Thoron each year, the people of the Xaverion Islands look to the sky for the Lumin Doves—pale birds touched by magic, glowing faintly at dusk. It is said that if two hearts yearn in secret, a Lumin Dove may appear, pausing near them or crossing their path, urging them to speak what lies in their hearts. And so, in memory of Isla and Miren, hopeful souls give gifts, confess dreams, and trust that—sometimes—the simplest truths are the ones that set us free.
