Eonil
The First Goddess, Mother of All Life, The Fallen Star
“We walk upon Eonil’s memory, and all living things are born from her sorrow and hope.” — Old saying
History
At the dawn of time, before sun or moon, Eonil was a gentle goddess wandering the universe in search of meaning. When she crossed paths with the god of chaos, Ghor, Eonil tried to resist its cruelty. For her defiance, Ghor struck her down, turning Eonil into a living world — our world, beneath our very feet — and casting her far into the cold darkness.
Yet Eonil’s spirit endured. It is said that, longing to fight back against Ghor’s tyranny, she brought forth the first creatures upon her surface, and all new life is born of her will. These earliest beings struggled for survival under Ghor’s shadow, but each one was a mark of Eonil’s quiet defiance and hope.
Eonil’s silent call reached across the void, and her sorrow drew the Twin Goddesses, Quintra and Denday, to her side. The sisters created the golden sun and the blue moon, bringing light and darkness to Eonil and joining in her struggle against Ghor. Through their efforts, the planet Eonil was saved from endless chaos, and the first age of darkness ended.
Though she is silent, the faithful believe Eonil’s heart beats in every living thing: in forests and rivers, in dragons and mortals, and in the quiet magic that fills the world. Her tears became springs and her laughter seeded the oldest trees. It is said that the Lifetree Eedrasil stands at the very heart of her being, and that as long as Eonil endures, so does hope.
Worship and Legacy
While the great temples honor Quintra or Denday, the oldest traditions — especially among the Ee’dornil and the Waykeepers — remember Eonil as the first mother of all things. Offerings of water, stones, or simple songs are sometimes left at ancient trees or springs to honor her. She is invoked in times of great need, when the land itself must be healed, or when a child is born.
Eonil is not worshipped as a goddess in the manner of sun or moon, but as the world itself — the ground beneath, the air above, and the secret voice of hope that endures after all sorrow.
