Magic
What is Magic?
It is said that Eonil herself brought magic to the planet. Magic is commonly viewed as an invisible force flowing through Eonil, found everywhere and within many inhabitants. Some creatures are magical by nature and can manipulate magic in various ways.
Dragons were the first creatures to manipulate Eonil’s magic into elemental forms and began teaching others, starting the ‘science’ of magical manipulation.
Magical Manipulation
After dragons learned to manipulate magic into elemental forms, several primary elements were identified: Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Arcane, and Nature. Attempts to manipulate magic into other elements have failed, though elementals were created as a byproduct.
Two other forms of magic exist: Light and Dark magic. These are primarily practiced by Priests and Paladins of Quintra and Denday. It is said these magics come from the Sun and Moon, or that they channel those energies to manipulate Eonil’s magic.
Quintra’s magic is often pure white Light or fiery orange-red Dark (“Blaize” magic).
Denday’s magic can be white with a blue hue or blue Light, or deep blue, purple, or black for Dark (“Void” magic).
Note: Both Quintra and Denday can wield light or dark aspects; the difference is not simply “Light = Quintra, Dark = Denday.” Corruptive aspects of these magics may be cleansed, unlike Ghor’s magic.
When Ghor corrupted a dragon, their followers gained access to magic as well, but this magic is inherently corruptive and not considered elemental. Using Ghor’s magic is seen as heresy and always results in corruption.
Not all magical abilities are elemental, light, or dark; some simply use magic in other ways, without transforming it into an element.
Magical Items
Magic is found not only in the air, but in water, ground, plants, trees, and even rocks. Some gems, stones, plants, wood, and other materials have magical properties.
When combined with rune language, their properties are enhanced. Processing magical items incorrectly can cause them to lose their power or even unleash magic destructively. When handled correctly, they become magical items, sometimes imbued with elemental or even dark magic.
Magical Places
Some locations on Eonil are more magical than others—whether due to magical items, concentrations of magic, or mysterious origins.
Theories include “pockets” of magic, veins of magic flowing from Eonil’s magical core, or simply local phenomena. Notable places include the Ruins of Leaferon, Moon Falls, Eedrasil’s Rest, and the Riuma Pyramid. The island of the Landing of the Gods is also considered magical.
Some locations have been corrupted to dark magic. The causes are unknown, but mages and paladins work to neutralize these sites.
Mystic Stones
Mystic stones grant abilities to those who touch their glowing marks. Believed to be divine gifts, their true origins are lost.
Each stone is unique, and their effects can be both beneficial and corruptive (especially those altered by Ghor). All attempts to create new mystic stones have failed.
Markings
Many magical beings feature markings—tattoo-like or glowing patterns on skin or fur—often associated with magical abilities.
Some are believed to be gifts from the gods, their placement indicating special powers. Others appear spontaneously, or after contact with mystic stones. Imitation tattoos are common, used for show or intimidation, but true magical markings are rare and powerful.
Corruption
Several types of magical corruption exist. Some (Blaize, Void, or corrupted nature magic) can be cleansed. The one that cannot be cured is Ghor’s dark magic: it inevitably corrupts mind and body, causing deformity and madness. Most creatures tainted by Ghor become twisted, monstrous versions of themselves.
