Role and Responsibilities

Waykeepers are responsible for the activation, calibration, and protection of the waygates. Their training includes magical theory, ritual practices, and practical skills passed down from the dragons and Ee’dornil elders. They are often called upon to solve issues with malfunctioning gates, guide new travelers in their use, and oversee ceremonies related to significant journeys.

Becoming a Waykeeper

Anyone with the curiosity and dedication to learn may seek training as a Waykeeper. Most begin as apprentices under an experienced mentor, gradually learning the rituals, symbols, and spells required to operate and maintain the gates. While the dragons and Ee’dornil originally taught the first Waykeepers, their wisdom is now shared across many communities and cultures.

Symbols and Attire

Waykeepers are often recognized by the special insignias they wear—typically a stylized depiction of an open portal or a key entwined with dragon motifs. Their attire is practical for travel, but also incorporates ceremonial sashes or cloaks in the colors associated with Eonil or their home region.

Role in Society

The presence of a Waykeeper is seen as a sign of good fortune and order. Communities take great pride in their local Waykeepers, who often serve as advisors, mediators, or even protectors in times of trouble. Many Waykeepers also serve as chroniclers, recording notable journeys and the history of the waygates themselves.

With the waygate network still thriving, Waykeepers remain in high demand. From bustling cities to remote outposts, their expertise ensures that the lifelines of Eonil stay open to all. While rumors occasionally circulate about neglected gates or strange phenomena, Waykeepers are generally regarded as the first and best line of defense against such issues.
