The Spirit World

Spirit World

The existence of a spirit world is widely accepted across Eonil. It is common knowledge that, upon death, a person’s spirit lives on in some form mostly referred to as the afterlife. Spirits can be summoned to appear in the land of the living by skilled Veilwardens and sometimes others, further supporting the belief that their presence continues beyond death.

Nature of the Spirit World

The leading theory holds that all spirits reside in a realm known as the spirit world. According to those who have spoken with spirits, this world is strangely similar to Eonil—familiar landscapes and places appear, but everything is ethereal and intangible. Some believe this is simply a manifestation shaped by the spirit’s own memories, while others suggest the spirit world is a true parallel realm, existing alongside Eonil as a different dimension.

Origins and Mysteries

Very little is known about the true nature or origins of the spirit world. No one knows exactly when it came into being, or even if it was created at all. Some scholars speculate that the spirit world is as old as Eonil herself, perhaps existing since the dawn of time. Other suggest it was somehow created later by either someone or some event lost in time.

Dual Realms: Jin’til and Vek’til

It is common knowledge that the spirit world is split into two different versions.

  • Jin’til: Often seen as the afterlife for the good.
  • Vek’til: Believed to be the place a soul is send when it is evil.

Many scholars believe these terms are derived from the divine language, referencing the two aspects or destinations of the spirit after death. The exact nature and purpose of Jin’til and Vek’til remain subjects of debate, as few reliable accounts exist.

The Veil

The Veil is said to be a magical barrier separating the living world of Eonil from the Spirit World. When a person dies their soul has to be safely guided through the Veil for them to reach the spirit world. This can be done by an undertaker or priest who knows the simplest rites but if possible it is the work of a Veilwarden who specialises in the Veil.
