Harpies
Summary
Origins & Mythology
Harpies were initially created as a balanced race of bird-people by Eonil. After Ghor’s corruption spread, the female harpies cursed their male counterparts (now Birdmen), rendering them unable to produce offspring together. Female harpies now reproduce only by mating with human men, laying eggs that hatch into new harpies.
Physical Characteristics
- Average Height: Comparable to human women, but often more lithe or slender
- Build: Human torso and head with feathered wings (replacing or in addition to arms), birdlike legs and talons, and often feathered tails
- Eyes: Intense, avian, often brightly colored or piercing
- Other Features: Lacking the ability to disguise themselves as humans; covered in feathers on wings, back, and tail
Culture & Society
- Habitat: Isolated or hidden areas; often found on cliffs, mountain aeries, or remote forests
- Social Structure: Female-only society; harpies form covens, flocks, or small matriarchal groups
- Traditions: Known for seducing men—especially those newly married or in relationships—and for invoking jealousy or discord among couples
- Economy: Scavengers or hunters; rarely interact directly with other societies, but known to steal or trade on rare occasions
Subraces & Variants
- Classic Harpies: The most common form; seductresses and instigators of jealousy, with strong magical powers of temptation.
- Corrupted Harpies: More twisted by Ghor's influence, these harpies may possess even more dangerous and destructive powers.
