Warlocks and Necromancers

Warlocks and Necromancers

Summary

Warlocks and Necromancers are not distinct races but corrupted versions of humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, or other sentient beings who have succumbed to the whispers and powers of Ghor. Both are feared for their mastery of forbidden magic, their chaotic natures, and the physical and spiritual corruption that marks their path.

Origins & Mythology

Those who become warlocks or necromancers do so by listening to Ghor and using the dark powers granted by the god of corruption. The more an individual indulges in this corrupted magic, the greater their powers and the more twisted their bodies and souls become. The transformation is not forced, but a result of choosing to wield Ghor’s gifts and embracing evil.

Physical Characteristics

  • Appearance: Warped and twisted versions of their original race; as corruption deepens, their forms grow more monstrous and unsettling
  • Lifespan: Varied; some may extend their lives unnaturally through dark magic
  • Distinct Features: Gaunt or bloated features, pallid or sickly skin, glowing or sunken eyes, marks of corruption; the most powerful may seem almost undead

Culture & Society

  • Habitat: Hidden lairs, cursed ruins, or regions tainted by Ghor’s presence
  • Social Structure: Rarely form lasting groups; often solitary, though some may command cults or undead minions
  • Traditions: Pursue ever-greater power through forbidden rituals; further corruption is both a risk and a reward
  • Economy: No true economy; thrive on plunder, extortion, or manipulating others through fear and dark bargains

Subraces & Variants

  • Warlocks: Wield corrupted magic to spread disease, blight, and chaos. Their focus is on inflicting suffering and destabilizing order.
  • Necromancers: Obsessed with death and the undead. The most powerful can raise and control corpses, creating armies of the lifeless bound to their will.
