Creatures of Eonil
Creatures of Eonil
Mythical beings born of the First World
Summary
Creatures of Eonil are the mythical beings she herself shaped in the First and Second Eras, between the Dawn of Time and the Birth of Civilization. They are older than kingdoms and older than faiths, guardians of the wild places in which they dwelt. Though most have passed into legend, their names linger in story and song as the living children of Eonil.
Origins
Eonil created her children as wardens of nature, each tied to a domain of the first world: plains, forests, mountains, or waters. They were both protectors and terrors, depending on whether one honored or defiled their territory.
Their homeland was the western continent, now lost to time. In the Age of Light, many crossed the seas with the Ee’dornil to the Xaverion Islands, where they kept new sanctuaries. By the early Age of Darkness, however, most had vanished.
The Fall
The fate of Eonil’s creatures was sealed when the world’s balance shifted:
-
With Quintra and Denday banished, their blessings weakened, and mortals could no longer stand as firmly against corruption.
-
Ghor’s influence, ever present since his own banishment, surged through his minions and spread across the land.
It was in this vulnerable time — the early Age of Darkness — that corruption first took root.
-
Fauns fell to Satyrs, becoming tricksters and predators.
-
Guardians of harsher domains — desert, tundra, wasteland — are said to have been utterly destroyed or twisted beyond recognition.
-
Surviving children of Eonil retreated into hidden sanctuaries, dwindling ever since.
By the present Fifth Era, most are thought extinct, though certain territories remain taboo: forests, plains, lakes, and mountains where trespassers vanish or return mad.
Known Creatures of Eonil
Each tied to their own territory, the surviving names of Eonil’s children are:
-
Centaurs – Guardians of plains and grasslands.
-
Minotaurs – Wardens of mountains and labyrinths.
-
Fauns – Spirits of forests and groves.
-
Nymphs – Keepers of lakes, rivers, and springs.
-
Satyrs – Fallen Fauns, corrupted in the early Age of Darkness.
Lost or Forgotten
There are whispers of other guardians — children of Eonil tied to deserts, tundras, or wastelands. If they ever existed, they were the first to be destroyed or corrupted when Ghor’s minions rose unchecked. Their names are lost, their forms erased, and the lands they once protected are now cursed and barren.
