Fauns

Fauns

Children of Eonil – Spirits of the Forest

Origins

Fauns were shaped by Eonil as the lively spirits of forests and groves. Where Treants embodied the endurance and wrath of the woods, Fauns were the playful, joyous side — music, dance, and laughter echoing through the trees. They appeared in the First and Second Eras on the lost continent, and came with the Ee’dornil to the Xaverion Islands in the Age of Light.

Nature

  • Humanoid with animal traits: small horns, goat-like legs, nimble frames.

  • Known for their flutes and songs, which could enchant, calm, or lead astray.

  • Guardians not by brute strength, but by confusing trespassers and leading them away from sacred places.

Fall

In the early Age of Darkness, many Fauns were corrupted by Ghor’s influence, becoming Satyrs — tricksters, predators, lurers-to-ruin. This tragedy is one of the most enduring tales of corruption, because people still hear “laughter in the woods” and never know whether it is memory or malice.

Fifth Era Memory

  • Villagers avoid deep glades where music is sometimes heard.

  • Customs vary: some leave milk or bread at the edge of woods, others warn children never to follow laughter between the trees.

  • City folk dismiss these tales as peasant fears, but travelers vanish often enough that the superstition lingers.
