A mysterious and clearly magic fire started in Abonai and spread out over the entire island. When over a quarter of the islands was burned to the ground the great halfling mage Qastaii discovered that corrupted fire sprites were causing the fire and keeping it going by setting everything they touches on fire. Qastaii created a magical rune and bound it to her staff. One by one she neutralized the fire sprites, but what she didn’t know is that they some sort of hive bond. Every sprite that Qastaii took care of made the other sprites stronger. Still as there were fewer and fewer sprites left the halflings managed to get the fire under control when it had burned down about half of the island.

By the time there was only one Sprite left it was extremely powerful and could nearly destroy an entire village on its own. But Qastaii had a plan, she could destroy the rune and that would overload the sprite and either strip it of its added power or destroy it in the process. But to destroy the rune a long ritual had to be done and the Sprite couldn’t find out. So she and a group of summoners made a plan, while they would do the ritual to destroy the rune, she would lead the sprite away to deceive it.

The plan worked and the sprite lots all its power. Yet it managed to flee and the halflings didn’t see it as a threat anymore. But a couple of nights after that Qastaii’s room was set on fire by the sprite and she died that night as the house burned down.
