Ahn’Ghor

Ahn’Ghor is an order of Ghor hunters founded during the Age of Darkness, after the tragedy now remembered as the Centipede of Ghor. The order traces its origin to Deirah, daughter of Zimtalor and Aurelia, who survived the destruction of Ossar and swore to continue the fight against Ghor’s corruption.

The order began not as a priesthood or a temple force, but as a company of hunters and avengers formed by Deirah and the survivors of Ossar. Their purpose was direct and lasting: to seek out Ghor’s corruption wherever it spread, and to protect others from the kind of devastation that had taken Deirah’s home and family.

Origin

Ahn’Ghor was founded during the Age of Darkness by Deirah, daughter of Zimtalor and Aurelia, after the tragedy now remembered as the Centipede of Ghor. The creature’s destruction left behind the Ossar Crater and cost Deirah both of her parents.

At the site of the crater, Deirah swore that she would not rest until every last trace of Ghor was erased from Eonil. In honour of her parents, she and the survivors established Ahn’Ghor as an order dedicated to hunting Ghor’s corruption.

Connection to Envylon

Deirah later converted to become a follower of Envylon after the arrival of the gods of the New Faiths. Because of this, Ahn’Ghor has a strong connection to Envylon, and the vast majority of its members follow him.

This connection does not make Ahn’Ghor a priesthood of Envylon. The order does not have paladins of Envylon and is not part of Envylon’s temple structure. It remains an order of Ghor hunters, shaped by discipline, training, and its purpose of fighting Ghor’s minions.

The Order

Ahn’Ghor is a highly structured organization known for discipline and swift action against Ghor minions. Among those who deal with Ghor’s corruption, they are mostly seen as elite hunters. Becoming one of them is difficult, and the selection process is strict.

Members of the order are trained by skilled elven masters. Those who become full hunters are expected to locate, confront, and destroy threats connected to Ghor, but the order also relies on specialists whose work supports the hunters in the field.

Recruitment

Ahn’Ghor recruits children from a very young age when they show potential in certain fields. When a child is taken into the order, their family is paid for the child’s lifelong service. The family is also looked after for as long as they live, regardless of what position the child eventually holds within Ahn’Ghor.

Not every child recruited by the order becomes a hunter. Some prove less suited to the role than first believed, but they are not cast out. They may instead be given administrative work, teaching positions, or other duties within the order.

Outposts

Ahn’Ghor strives to maintain at least one outpost on every island. In some cases, they also have an outpost in a large city. Where they have no direct presence, they often make contact with the local Xaverion guard tower and ask to be informed of possible Ghor activity in the area.

The order’s main fortress and training facility is located on the north-west corner of Tanea. It serves as a base of operations, a place of training, and a lookout point.

Specializations

Ghor Hunters

Ghor hunters are one of the most common and best-known specializations within Ahn’Ghor. They are trained to locate, track, and kill Ghor minions.

Summoners

Summoners within Ahn’Ghor specialize in banishing Ghor minions that are too powerful to simply kill. They rarely summon creatures they have banished to use them as companions in battle.

If an Ahn’Ghor summoner does summon a banished creature, it is most likely a creature that was not a Ghor minion. The only reason they would summon a banished Ghor minion again is if the order has found a way to kill it.

Medics

Ahn’Ghor medics are trained to recognize the first signs of corruption and to try to cleanse it. They also specialize in the kinds of wounds Ghor hunters are most likely to suffer.

Their training is more narrow than that of a common medic, but they have superior knowledge when it comes to corruption, certain diseases, and poisons.

Seers

Seers are the least known group within Ahn’Ghor, mainly because the gift of sight is rare. The order seeks them out and offers substantial rewards for finding one.

Ahn’Ghor believes that a seer can be trained to focus their visions on Ghor corruption. Through this, seers may be able to predict where and when Ghor attacks might occur.

Most of a seer’s study goes into honing this ability. This also makes them vulnerable. A typical seer has little to no offensive ability and must be protected carefully, especially if a Ghor minion manages to get close.

Veilwardens in Service

Though Veilwardens are not a formal specialization of Ahn’Ghor, it is common knowledge that the order has several Veilwardens in its service. Necromancy and undead are part of Ghor’s domain, and both are known to damage the Veil. Because of this, Veilwardens can be valuable to Ahn’Ghor when Ghor activity leaves behind trapped souls, ghosts, weakened places, or other disturbances of the Veil.

Ahn’Ghor remains an order of Ghor hunters, not a Veilwarden organization. The Veilwardens who serve with them are specialists whose knowledge can help the order in matter that affect the Veil.
