Endorat
Endorat
The Human Crown Isle
Overview
Endorat is the principal human-held island of the Xaverion realm. Lying south-west of Andoran, it enjoys a near-tropical climate and serves as the heart of human nobility and politics. At its western cliffs stands Castle Grimwild, where Queen Odette and the gathered human court reside, presiding over their vassal houses and human-ruled holdings across the islands.
Endorat is known for three things above all:
-
Its busy trade city of Enville
-
Its dense web of noble politics, centred on Castle Grimwild and houses like Galahan
-
The lingering shadow of old horrors, most notably the haunted Blinkstar Ruins
Location & Climate
-
Position: South-west of Andoran, in the southern half of the Xaverion Islands.
-
Climate: Warm and almost tropical, with mild winters and long, humid summers.
The island’s fertile interior supports rich agriculture and vineyards, while its western cliffs and southern coasts host trade towns, estates, and the main royal stronghold.
Rule & Society
Endorat is recognised as the human crown isle:
-
Humans live within a strict hierarchy, ruled by their young queen Odette, who resides in Castle Grimwild with her betrothed, the powerful wizard Rothbard, and the assembled human noble court.
-
Every island under human rule elsewhere in the Xaverion realm is governed by a local noble family, but all ultimately owe allegiance to the crown at Grimwild.
Endorat’s nobility are deeply tied to trade and politics. Some houses still hold wide lands; others, like House Galahan, have traded territory over generations for wealth and alliances, becoming powerful without ruling vast domains.
Major Settlements & Landmarks
Enville
Enville is Endorat’s primary harbour town and one of the largest trade markets in the Xaverion Islands.
-
A large coastal city focused on commerce and shipping.
-
Famous for its vast open markets; it is widely known that most provisioning for Castle Grimwild is done here, which draws merchants from all over the islands.
-
A river route connects Enville to Castle Grimwild inland, considered very safe and heavily patrolled.
In the town square stands a statue of Noent, commemorating the hero who saved Endorat from Beringar the Vampire Lord.
Galahan Estate
South of Enville, on cliffs overlooking the harbour, the sea, and the roads leading into the city, lies the Galahan Estate.
-
A small castle with a prominent tower that doubles as a lighthouse, guiding ships safely towards Enville.
-
A second tower stands near the city, where a signal fire can be lit to warn Enville of approaching danger.
-
Seat of House Galahan, a wealthy trading house famed for its gallantry and purity in reputation, though it maintains no private army and avoids direct warfare.
In the present day (Year 22), Lord Elijah Marius Galahan remains one of Endorat’s most influential nobles, balancing trade interests, charitable endeavours in Enville, and his complicated ties to the wider Xaverion politics.
Angar
Angar is often referred to as “the shadow town of Enville.”
-
A smaller town where those who cannot make it in Enville sometimes drift.
-
Known for being far shadier than Enville, making it a risky place for honest merchants but a fertile ground for smugglers, dubious deals, and quiet disappearances.
-
A route leads from Angar to Castle Grimwild, cutting straight through dense forest; it is considered dangerous, and most sensible travellers avoid it.
Castle Grimwild
Castle Grimwild is the royal stronghold of Endorat and seat of the human noble court.
-
Built on the edge of a dramatic cliffside overlooking Endorat’s west coast.
-
From the sea, the castle can only be reached by two land routes, each guarded by a fortress, making it extremely defensible.
-
Within its walls live Queen Odette, Rothbard, and many of the highest-ranking human nobles, councils, and retainers.
Grimwild is not merely a residence: it is a symbol of human authority across the islands and the place where many key decisions about trade, alliances, and law for human holdings are made.
Lydel & Derick
The two fortresses that guard Castle Grimwild’s only reliable land approaches are:
-
Lydel – guarding the north-western route to Castle Grimwild.
-
Derick – guarding the south-western route.
Both serve as military checkpoints and border walls, ensuring that no large force can reach Grimwild unnoticed or unchallenged.
Blinkstar Ruins
On Endorat’s southern reaches lie the ruins of Castle Blinkstar, a place wrapped in fear and legend.
-
Once a large and prestigious castle of a human noble.
-
In the Fourth Era, the castle fell to vampires, becoming a den of horrors led by Beringar the Vampire Lord.
-
Beringar and his followers ravaged nearby settlements until finally Noent and other heroes confronted and destroyed them. Blinkstar was burned and left in ruin.
To this day:
-
Locals believe Blinkstar remains haunted.
-
Most refuse to go near it, fearing vampires or restless spirits still linger there.
Noent’s statue in Enville stands partly as a reminder that Blinkstar did fall, and that the island survived.
Endorat in the Present Day (Year 22, Fifth Era)
By Esmay Qastaii Thoron, Year 22, Endorat stands as:
-
The political and symbolic centre of human power in the Xaverion Islands.
-
A trade powerhouse, thanks to Enville’s markets and the constant flow of goods to and from Castle Grimwild.
-
A land whose nobility bears both glory and grief—from the ancient victory over Beringar to more recent tragedies such as siren attacks along the coasts.
For common folk, Endorat is the island of opportunity and danger:
-
Prosperity can be found in Enville’s markets and noble service.
-
Yet tales of haunted ruins, treacherous forest roads, and the intrigues of the human court remind everyone that life under the warm Endorat sun is never entirely safe.
If you’d like, I can next pull out a small “Places of Interest on Endorat” sidebar for the website (short blurbs for Enville, Grimwild, Galahan Estate, etc.) to use as a reusable box on story and character pages.
