Gnomes
Origins & Mythology
Gnomes are not closely tied to magical origin stories like elves or dwarves, but their communities are shaped by resilience and adaptation. The two main groups—Estonian and Xaverion Gnomes—have distinct histories, with the former famed for engineering prowess and the latter for agricultural tenacity.
Physical Characteristics
- Average Height: Slightly taller than halflings, up to a human’s upper chest
- Build: Compact, agile, and dexterous
- Lifespan: Up to 500 years
- Distinct Features: Quick movements, nimble fingers, expressive faces
Culture & Society
- Habitat: Towns, villages, and farmlands on the Xaverion Islands, especially New Tinkeron
- Social Structure: Led by leaders elected every five years based on popularity; any gnome can run for office
- Traditions: Highly value invention, independence, and community reputation; pride in their creations and self-sufficiency
- Economy: Renowned for engineering (Estonian Gnomes) and farming (Xaverion Gnomes); some reputation for “borrowing” supplies for inventions
Subraces & Variants
- Estonian Gnomes: Tinkerers and engineers who fled Estonya a century ago, now settled on New Tinkeron. They are the best engineers on Eonil, less skilled in magic but unmatched in gadgets.
- Xaverion Gnomes: Traditionally farmers whose original home was destroyed in the Last Gnome Settlement. Many moved to New Tinkeron, while others rebuilt on the islands, focusing on farming and livestock.
