Landing of the Gods

“Where the four first set foot, the age began to change.” — Early New Faiths proverb
Overview
The Landing of the Gods is the island where the gods of the New Faiths — Thoron, Myalanna, Envylon and Ysandra — are said to have first arrived on Eonil.
On this island the first temples of the New Gods were built. From here, their worship spread across the Xaverion Islands and the calendar, orders and Church of the New Faiths began to take shape.
Many people also say the whole island is a magical place, counted among Eonil’s famous magical sites.
Temples and Layout
The Landing of the Gods is laid out around the four directions, with each god’s temple placed on a different side of the island:
-
North: Temple of Thoron
-
East: Temple of Myalanna
-
South: Temple of Envylon
-
West: Temple of Ysandra
In the middle, there is a neutral meeting ground used to coordinate joint efforts between the four churches. Here, priests and leaders gather to plan shared actions, especially against Ghor’s corruption.
Arrival of the New Gods & the Pact of Unity
In the late Age of Darkness, four new deities appeared upon Eonil: Thoron, Myalanna, Envylon and Ysandra. In the world’s darkest hour they came together to fight the corruption of Ghor and the terrors that roamed unchecked across the lands.
According to Church accounts:
-
They first arrived upon the island now called the Landing of the Gods.
-
There they gathered and built the first great temples.
-
In the centre they raised a grand meeting ground, where their churches coordinated joint ventures against Ghor’s corruption.
Recognising that no single god could end the Darkness alone, the four swore a Pact of Unity: together they would bring order, faith and resistance.
From among their first followers they chose the First Ghor Hunters — twelve named heroes whose names were later given to the days of the New Faiths calendar.
The Proofing Grounds
The Proofing Grounds are also found on the Landing of the Gods.
They were created during the Battle of Qinthar’s Keep:
-
Just west of the Landing of the Gods, on a small island off what is now Xaveri, stood the fortress of Qinthar.
-
When a monstrous figure began raising an army of corpses there, the New Faiths called their followers to arms but realised they needed greater discipline and training.
-
In response, they founded the Proofing Grounds, a great training facility on the Landing of the Gods.
Here:
-
Paladins in training come to prove their worth.
-
Those who pass become full paladins and choose a specialisation to train in further.
-
It was here that the first Templar Paladins of the New Faiths were trained: champions sworn to fight against the forces of Ghor.
A Known Magical Place
Among Eonil’s magical sites, the Landing of the Gods is often listed alongside places such as the ruins of Leaferon, the waterfalls of Moonfalls, Eedrasil’s Rest and the Riuma Pyramid.
Accounts of magical places describe them as regions where magic seems stronger in the air, water or ground. Many people say the whole island of the Landing of the Gods is such a place — and ask, why else would the gods have chosen this island to land on?
Whether this is doctrine, folklore, or both depends on who is telling the story.
Present-Day Role
In the Fifth Era, the Landing of the Gods remains:
-
The traditional origin point of the New Faiths.
-
The home of the first temples of Thoron, Myalanna, Envylon and Ysandra.
-
The location of the Proofing Grounds, where new paladins are still trained and tested.
Pilgrims, acolytes and paladin recruits continue to travel there, some seeking blessing, others to earn their place among the warriors of the New Faiths.
