Overview

The House of the Eternal Dawn is the ancestral estate of House Dawnstrider, situated atop a dune hill along the eastern coast of Tanea.

It is both the residence of the Dawnstrider family and one of the best-known luxury entertainment venues in the Xaverion Islands.

The estate is famous for its extravagant celebrations, elegant guest accommodations, performances and pleasure entertainment. Nobles, wealthy merchants, travellers and other guests visit from across the islands, whether for a formal event, private retreat or simply to enjoy what the House has to offer.

Despite its reputation for indulgence, the House is equally well known for strict rules regarding consent, discretion and the treatment of those working within it.

Under its current master, Lord Gregory Octavius Dawnstrider Mirathil, pleasure is encouraged.

Ignoring another person's boundaries is not.

The Estate

The House of the Eternal Dawn overlooks the eastern sea from a hill among the coastal dunes, with a private beach below.

Much of the estate has been designed around the sunrise.

The Grand Ballroom, entertainment spaces, many family quarters and some of the most prestigious guest rooms face east toward the horizon, often with balconies overlooking the sea.

At dawn, sunlight pours into much of the eastern side of the estate.

This relationship with the rising sun has become deeply associated with House Dawnstrider itself and gives the estate its name.

The grounds contain extensive accommodations, social spaces, entertainment areas and private sections reserved for the household and its guests.

The House is large enough that formal noble gatherings, private entertainment and Dawnstrider business can occur simultaneously without necessarily crossing into one another.

A House of Pleasure

The House of the Eternal Dawn is openly associated with adult entertainment and pleasure.

Unlike more discreet establishments hidden away from respectable society, the House makes little attempt to disguise this aspect of its identity.

Performances, companionship, private entertainment and opportunities for couples or individuals wishing to explore pleasure are all part of its reputation.

This has occasionally made the House controversial among more conservative members of the nobility.

It has done very little to reduce the number of nobles who visit.

Lord Dawnstrider himself sees no contradiction between maintaining a respectable noble household and operating a place devoted to pleasure. In his view, what consenting adults choose to do in private is their own concern.

The House therefore occupies an unusual position within Xaverion society: simultaneously prestigious, scandalous and undeniably influential.

Consent and Safety

The House is governed by a strict set of rules commonly associated with its current master.

Consent is considered non-negotiable.

Workers and guests alike are permitted to establish their own boundaries, and those boundaries are expected to be respected regardless of wealth, title or position.

This reputation has made the House particularly attractive to workers from the adult entertainment industry. Many seek employment within Dawnstrider establishments specifically because they know the rules protecting them are actively enforced.

For visitors, the same reputation creates a sense of security.

The House is a place where people can explore unfamiliar pleasures knowing that refusal, hesitation or withdrawal of consent is expected to be respected.

There is, however, another side to that reputation.

Lord Dawnstrider is notorious for imposing punishments that are considerably more severe than the offences that provoked them. Staff therefore generally attempt to de-escalate problems before the Master himself becomes involved.

Regular visitors tend to have heard at least one story explaining why.

Discretion

Discretion is one of the House's most valued traditions.

Guests are not expected to have their private interests, companions or activities turned into gossip or political leverage.

Members of the nobility in particular frequently rely upon this reputation.

The House may arrange companionship or other private assistance for a guest, including experienced companions capable of guiding someone who is unfamiliar with a particular aspect of intimacy.

Such arrangements are treated as private matters.

What happens within the House generally remains within the House.

The Dawnstrider Order

The House of the Eternal Dawn also serves as the primary headquarters of the Dawnstrider Order.

This creates an unusual overlap between entertainment venue, noble residence and operational base.

Members of the Order frequently pass through the estate, and its guards and staff are accustomed to handling both wealthy guests and far more serious Dawnstrider business.

The House can also function as a place of refuge.

People seeking Dawnstrider assistance may be sheltered there temporarily, while other establishments operating under Dawnstrider protection can direct those in danger toward the Order.

For someone fleeing exploitation, trafficking or abuse, the House of the Eternal Dawn may therefore represent something very different from what it represents to an ordinary guest.

The Starfall Masquerade

Once each year, the House of the Eternal Dawn hosts the Starfall Masquerade, one of the four major seasonal balls of the Xaverion Islands.

The Masquerade is held on Bohrday in the cycle of Noent, during the final days of Myalanna, as part of the celebrations welcoming the approaching season of Envylon.

For the occasion, the estate adopts a considerably more respectable face.

Masks and formal attire fill the ballrooms as nobles and invited guests gather for music, dancing, performances, conversation and the social manoeuvring expected of a major noble gathering.

The event is glamorous, extravagant and intentionally theatrical. Creative masks are encouraged, and anonymity allows guests a little more freedom than many other formal noble occasions.

The Starfall Masquerade is one of the rare nights on which the House of the Eternal Dawn is known primarily as a great noble estate rather than a house of pleasure.

Mostly.

Lord Dawnstrider is still the host.
