The Centipede of Ghor
~54 Before Fifth Era (Fourth Era — Age of Darkness)
In the year following the arrival of the New Gods, tragedy struck the elven lands of Tanea.
The Centipede of Ghor
Reports spread of a giant, corrupted beast roaming the forests — a centipede twisted by Ghor’s power. It grew ever larger with each creature it devoured, its body reeking of dark magic. Its path led directly toward Ossar, a small elven village, birthplace of the mage Zimtalor and his wife, the priestess Aurelia.
Zimtalor, Aurelia, their daughter Deirah, and a band of skilled elves pursued the beast through the woodlands, hoping to stop it before it reached the village. Their efforts failed. In the battle, Aurelia was pierced by one of the centipede’s poisoned spikes. She died a slow and agonizing death that lasted through the night, despite every attempt to save her.
Zimtalor’s Sacrifice
Consumed by grief and rage, Zimtalor launched a desperate attack the next day. One by one, the elves who stood with him fell. When all hope seemed lost, he used the last of his strength to teleport the survivors — including his daughter Deirah — far from danger.
Alone, Zimtalor drew in all the power he could wrest from the land itself. The unleashed magic tore through his body, erupting in a cataclysmic explosion that destroyed both the creature and the village of Ossar. In its place remained only a massive crater. From that day forward, it has been known as the Ossar Crater.
Legacy of Deirah
Survivors carried the memory of the sacrifice. Deirah, daughter of Zimtalor and Aurelia, swore an oath at the site of the crater: she would not rest until every last trace of Ghor was erased from Eonil. In honour of her parents, she and the survivors established the Ahn’Ghor, a company of hunters and avengers dedicated to rooting out Ghor’s corruption wherever it spread.
