Suraia Silverbell

Suraia

Suraia

Suraia Silverbell is a timid young human woman with a remarkable gift for healing. Gentle, compassionate and often painfully shy, she has a tendency to place the wellbeing of others far above her own.

Following a shipwreck that leaves her stranded on Eedrasil's Rest, she encounters the Ee'dornil druid Thornwing, who reluctantly comes to her aid. Their meeting marks the beginning of an unexpected companionship that later grows to include the young Oakhai woman Vasha.

Appearance

Suraia is a slender, fair-skinned woman with freckles scattered across her cheeks and nose. Her large, bright blue eyes and long, naturally curly red hair are among her most recognisable features.

Her curls fall well past her shoulders, occasionally escaping whatever arrangement she has attempted to keep them out of her face.

She has a delicate appearance, made more noticeable by her tendency to neglect her own needs, particularly when food or rest is concerned. Her posture is often hesitant, and her expressions can betray her uncertainty even when she is trying her best to appear composed.

Attire

Suraia favours modest, light-coloured clothing, particularly dresses in pale shades of blue, white and grey. She wears practical boots for travelling and carries a cloak to protect herself against the weather.

As a travelling healer, much of what she carries is dedicated to her profession. Her belongings include herbs, bandages, potions, medical instruments and other supplies, kept within easy reach in her pouches and shoulder bag.

She does not carry a weapon and has no combat training, relying instead upon her healing abilities and the protection of her travelling companions when danger arises.

Personality

Suraia is exceptionally shy, timid and gentle. Her voice is soft and hesitant, and she frequently struggles to find the words she wishes to say, particularly when confronted by strangers or placed under pressure. Her pauses and repeated attempts to begin a sentence can sometimes be mistaken for a stutter.

She is deeply empathetic and compassionate, often to her own detriment. Suraia has great difficulty standing up for herself, even when she is being treated unfairly. She is more likely to withdraw, become overwhelmed or quietly endure another person's behaviour than confront them directly.

Yet this reluctance to defend herself does not extend to those who need her help. Faced with another person's suffering, she can find reserves of determination that seem entirely at odds with her otherwise timid nature.

Suraia is also easily embarrassed, particularly when it comes to affection and matters of attraction. Her growing closeness to Thorn has certainly given Vasha plenty of opportunities to tease her.

Despite her self-doubt and tendency to underestimate herself, Suraia possesses a resilient inner core. She continues to offer kindness even after encountering cruelty, suspicion and prejudice.

Skills & Abilities

Suraia is a gifted healer with knowledge of herbs, medicines and practical medical care.

Her healing magic manifests as an unusual white light with a faint blue hue. Although she uses it to help others, its appearance has also attracted fear and suspicion from people who do not understand it.

Her willingness to heal is not limited to those who have treated her kindly. When someone is injured or suffering, Suraia's first instinct is usually to offer whatever assistance she can, even when doing so may place her at risk.

She has no experience with weapons or fighting and is considerably less comfortable in the wilderness than her two travelling companions.

Weaknesses & Fears

Suraia's greatest personal weakness is her inability to stand up for herself. She struggles with confrontation, is easily intimidated and often finds herself unable to speak when someone presses or challenges her.

She also has a tendency to neglect her own wellbeing. Rest, food and her personal safety can become secondary concerns when she believes somebody else needs her attention.

Suraia cannot swim. Having survived a violent shipwreck, she is understandably frightened of open water, particularly when she feels she has little control over her own safety.

She is also prone to exhausting herself through her healing magic, sometimes giving more of her strength than she can comfortably spare.

Virtues

Suraia possesses an extraordinary capacity for kindness and compassion.

Her calling as a healer is not simply a profession but an essential part of who she is. Even when frightened, exhausted or uncertain of her own safety, she finds it difficult to turn away from someone who needs her.

Although she may never readily defend herself, she is capable of remarkable courage on behalf of others. Her gentleness should not be mistaken for an absence of strength.
