Eonil After Dark is the optional 18+ side of Eonil.
Eonil is a fantasy setting in which sexuality exists as a normal part of life. People fall in love, have sex, explore their desires, work within the adult industry, form unusual relationships and sometimes make wonderfully questionable decisions with other consenting adults.
The normal Eonil Codex does not need to describe all of that in detail.
After Dark does.
It provides a place for mature stories, artwork and worldbuilding that would either be inappropriate for the normal Codex or require so much sanitising that an important part of the setting would be lost. Readers should still be able to understand and enjoy Eonil without visiting After Dark; this section adds another layer to the world rather than serving as required reading.
Sexuality Is Part of the World
Sexuality within Eonil is not treated as inherently shameful.
People of different races, genders and orientations have relationships, casual encounters and different attitudes towards intimacy. Sex workers and adult establishments exist openly in parts of the world. Some people are monogamous, others are not. Some are adventurous, some are timid, and some have very little interest in sex at all.
After Dark can explore those differences more openly than the main Codex.
Its content may include nudity, erotic artwork, explicit consensual sex, romance, kink, adult professions, reproductive subjects, sexual magic, adult aspects of creatures and species, and the practical realities surrounding intimacy.
None of those subjects automatically define a character.
They are simply part of the world they live in.
Consent Is the Dividing Line
Eonil After Dark can be sexually explicit, but consent matters.
A character being sexually experienced does not make them available to everyone. A sex worker can refuse a customer. Someone who agreed to one act has not agreed to another. Marriage or an existing relationship does not create permanent consent, and consent can always be withdrawn.
Characters may have very different preferences and boundaries, and After Dark is allowed to explore those differences.
Consensual sexuality can be playful, romantic, awkward, intense, strange, kinky or simply fun.
The important distinction is that the people involved have chosen to participate.
Dark Themes Still Exist
Eonil itself is not a safe or sanitised world.
Its stories and lore can include slavery, trafficking, sexual assault, coercion, abusive relationships, narcotics, magical manipulation and other violations of bodily autonomy. Some factions and individuals do truly terrible things.
After Dark does not pretend those things do not exist.
In fact, some mature worldbuilding cannot be properly explored without discussing them. The Dawnstrider Order, the West Wing of the House of the Eternal Dawn, criminal adult establishments and certain forms of magic or alchemy all exist partly because people in Eonil can have their choices taken away from them.
But depicting a violation as part of a story is different from presenting that violation as erotic entertainment.
A story may portray sexual assault because it matters to a character, because it demonstrates what an organisation does, or because the aftermath and recovery are important. It can be frightening, upsetting or uncomfortable.
What Eonil After Dark is not intended to do is turn the victim's lack of consent into the sexual attraction of the scene.
The darkness may be part of Eonil.
It does not have to become the fantasy.
Pleasure, Consequences and the Rest of the World
After Dark is also broader than explicit sex.
Sex has consequences and surrounding culture. Eonil therefore has contraception, reproductive alchemy, morning-after potions, adult businesses, healers specialising in sexual care, laws and customs surrounding relationships, and organisations concerned with exploitation and consent.
Sexual activity itself even has connections to magic that most inhabitants of Eonil do not fully understand.
Likewise, some creatures and magical traditions have adult aspects that cannot really be explained on the normal Codex without avoiding an important part of their biology or magic.
Those subjects belong here too.
After Dark is therefore as much a mature worldbuilding Codex as it is a home for erotic stories and artwork.
Established Characters Still Have Boundaries
After Dark does not turn Eonil's characters into interchangeable adult-content characters.
Their personalities, relationships, orientations, experiences and boundaries remain part of who they are. A character who would enthusiastically agree to one situation may strongly refuse another.
That also matters for fan works and community contributions.
Something being labelled non-canon or an alternate universe does not automatically mean every established boundary disappears. Eonil remains a curated setting, and adult contributions should still respect the characters and world they are based upon.
More detailed contribution guidelines can address individual characters, relationships and permitted interpretations separately.
What Belongs in Eonil After Dark?
As a general guideline, Eonil After Dark welcomes adult characters in consensual sexual situations; pin-ups and artistic nudity; romantic, gentle or explicit intimacy; consensual kink; adult professions and sex work; mature relationship dynamics; reproductive and sexual-health worldbuilding; sexual magic and adult creature lore; and serious stories dealing with exploitation, assault or coercion when those subjects are treated as harmful events rather than eroticised violations.
Content centred on sexualising force, coercion or an unwilling person's inability to consent does not fit the intended tone of Eonil After Dark. Gratuitous gore is likewise outside the focus of the section.
There can be darkness here.
There can also be tenderness, silliness, desire, experimentation, embarrassment, love and people having an extremely good evening.
Eonil contains all of those things.
After Dark is simply where the setting is allowed to talk about them without looking away.
I think that last sentence is particularly close to what your After Dark section has evolved into. It isn't really “the NSFW corner of the website” anymore. It is the part of the Codex where Eonil doesn't have to fade to black simply because the subject is adult.
